A very representative dish is the coastal tapado, especially in the northern region of the country, although well known throughout the other regions of Honduras.
The Honduran coastal tapado is a traditional dish with roots in the northern part of the country, recognized for its unique blend of flavors and ingredients such as fish, seafood, green plantain, and coconut.
Coastal Tapado
Ingredients
1 pound of Salted meat
1 Chopped sweet chili
1 Tomato
1 Cilantro leaf
1 Chopped onion
1 Grated coconut
1 tablespoon of Oil
2 Sliced green plantains
2 Sliced green bananas
2 cups of Cassava
Salt and pepper
Hot chili
1 pinch of Pepper
Preparation
Step 1 : Place the salted meat in a pot and add water, then cook for about 20 minutes or until the meat softens.
Step 2 : Next, extract the coconut milk from the grated coconut and add it to the already tender meat.
Step 3 : In a skillet with hot oil, prepare a sofrito with sweet chili, hot chili, tomato, cilantro, onion, achiote, salt, and pepper to taste.
Step 4 : Add this sofrito to the meat and let it simmer.
Step 5 : Then, incorporate the plantain, cassava, and green bananas, and cook for another 20 minutes.
Step 6 : Once ready, enjoy!
