One of the most representative dishes of Honduran cuisine. Catracha baleadas consist of a wheat flour tortilla filled with beans, usually enjoyed for breakfast, as a snack before lunch, or at dinner.
It was born in the city of La Ceiba in the famous baleadas of La Línea. Catracha baleadas are characterized by their simplicity and delicious flavor, reflecting the cultural diversity that defines Honduran cuisine.
Catracha Baleadas
Ingredients
1 pound of Cooked beans
4 cups of Wheat flour
4 Spoons of oil or margarine
2 ½ teaspoons of Baking powder
1 teaspoon of Salt
½ Lukewarm milk
Preparation
Step 1 : In a container, combine all ingredients, mixing everything except the milk.
Step 2 : Gradually add the milk while kneading the flour until you get a dough that doesn't stick to the hands, ensuring it remains smooth.
Step 3 : Next, form a long tube with the dough and divide it into balls of the desired size, whether for tortillas the size of a palm or the size of a golf ball.
Step 4 : Let rest for at least 30 minutes.
Step 5 : Heat a griddle on the stove and roll out the dough with a rolling pin to make the tortillas.
Step 6 : Cook on the griddle for about 2 minutes on one side, flip and cook for another minute over medium heat.
Step 7 : A good tortilla, whether made from corn or wheat, will puff up when cooked.
Step 8 : Once the tortillas are ready, add the beans as filling.
