Baleadas Hondureñas

One of the most representative dishes of Honduran cuisine. Honduran baleadas consist of a wheat flour tortilla filled with beans, usually enjoyed at breakfast, as a snack before lunch, or at dinner.

It originated in the city of La Ceiba, specifically in the famous Baleadas de la Línea. Honduran baleadas are characterized by their simplicity and delicious flavor, reflecting the cultural diversity that defines Honduran cuisine.

Ingredients

1 pound of Cooked beans

4 cups of Wheat flour

4 Spoons of oil or margarine

2 ½ teaspoons of Baking powder

1 teaspoon of Salt

½ Lukewarm milk

Preparation

Step 1 : In a bowl, combine all ingredients, mixing everything except the milk.

Step 2 : Gradually add the milk while kneading the flour until you get a dough that doesn't stick to your hands, ensuring it remains smooth.

Step 3 : Next, shape the dough into a long cylinder and divide it into balls of the desired size, whether for palm-sized tortillas or golf ball-sized.

Step 4 : Let the dough rest for at least 30 minutes.

Step 5 : Heat a griddle on the stove and roll out the dough with a rolling pin to make tortillas.

Step 6 : Cook on the griddle for about 2 minutes on one side, flip, and cook for another minute over medium heat.

Step 7 : A good tortilla, whether corn or flour, will puff up while cooking.

Step 8 : Once the tortillas are ready, add the beans as a filling.
