Macheteadas are a very popular dessert in Honduras, especially in the northern region of the country.

Although their exact origin is unknown, it is believed that they were created by rural families in the region, using the ingredients available to them to make affordable and delicious desserts.

They are called this because of the marks or cuts made on their surface during preparation, which resemble the indentations made by a machete on plants.

Ingredients

Macheteadas

4 cups of Wheat flour

1 Egg

4 tablespoons of Sugar

4 tablespoons of Oil

1 teaspoon of Salt

½ cup of Warm water

2 ½ teaspoons of Baking powder

Preparation (simple version)

Step 1 : Mix the flour, egg, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a bowl and knead until obtaining a homogeneous dough. Macheteadas - Preparation - Step 1

Step 3 : Roll out each ball with a rolling pin, cut three slashes in the center of each, and fry them in hot oil until golden. Macheteadas - Preparation - Step 3

Step 1 : To prepare this recipe, start by adding flour, egg, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a bowl.

Step 2 : Then, knead the mixture until you obtain a homogeneous dough and form a long roll.

Step 3 : Next, cut the dough into balls about the size of a tortilla and let them rest for one hour.

Step 4 : After resting, take portions of the dough and shape them into balls of the desired size.

Step 5 : Then, roll out each ball with a rolling pin and make three cuts in the center.

Step 6 : Finally, fry the balls in hot oil until they are golden on both sides.

Step 7 : Once done, place them on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Step 8 : These fried balls can be enjoyed with coffee, honey, or papaya sweet, according to personal preference.
