The difference between Honduran Horchata and recipes from other countries is that ours is made with a higher proportion of morro seeds, giving it its characteristic light gray color.
Honduran Horchata
Ingredients
2 cups of Morro seeds
1 cup of Squash seeds
½ cup of Unsalted peanut or peanuts
½ cup of Sesame or ajonjolí
½ cup of White rice
3 cups of Sweet rapadura or 2 teaspoons of sugar
2 Cinnamon sticks
1 Lemon piece
3 liters of Water
Preparation
Step 1 : Wash and dry the seeds separately.
Step 2 : Then, toast the morro and squash seeds, followed by the peanuts and sesame.
Step 3 : Once ready, grind a bit of cinnamon and combine all the toasted seeds.
Step 4 : In a separate container, blend the seeds with water to extract their essence.
Step 5 : Next, strain the mixture and add more water if necessary.
Step 6 : Add sugar, lemon, and ice to taste, and adjust the sweetness if desired.
