Semitas are the most popular traditional bread in Honduras, perfect for breakfast along with a delicious local coffee, or to enjoy as an afternoon snack.
Semitas
Ingredients
1 pound of Flour
¼ Sugar
½ cup of Vegetable shortening
1 cup of Milk
2 Eggs
1 Yeast packet
Cinnamon
½ cup of Vegetable shortening
1½ cup of Flour
½ cup of Sugar
2 tablespoons of Vanilla
Preparation
Step 1 : In a large bowl, add the flour, sugar, and yeast, and mix well.
Step 2 : Then, add the shortening, eggs, and milk, and mix until a smooth dough forms.
Step 3 : On a floured surface, place the dough, cut into small balls, shape into balls, and place on a baking tray.
Step 4 : For the top of the semita, mix shortening, flour, vanilla, and sugar, knead until a firm dough forms, and spread over the small balls.
Step 5 : Let the semitas rest on the tray for half an hour, then bake at 300°C for 45 minutes.
