A simple and affordable Honduran milk conserve recipe, perfect for enjoying on any occasion.
You only need 4 ingredients and a little patience to achieve a delicious and traditional sweet.
Milk Conserve
Ingredients
2 pounds of Sugar
2 liters of Milk
4 Lemon leaves
1 teaspoon of Vanilla extract
Preparation
Step 1 : In a large, thick pot, add the milk, sugar, and leaves. Stir and cook over high heat, constantly stirring.
Step 2 : Once the mixture boils, reduce the heat to medium and add the vanilla, cooking for 30 minutes.
Step 3 : Occasionally stir, at least every 2 minutes.
Step 4 : After 30 minutes of cooking, remove the leaves from the pot and continue cooking for another 10 minutes, or until the mixture is well thickened.
Step 5 : To check the consistency, take a small container with water and add a few drops of the mixture.
Step 6 : If the mixture dissolves, it still needs more cooking; if it remains like a paste, you can remove the pot from the heat.
Step 7 : When removing from heat, it's important to keep stirring the mixture to prevent burning from residual heat.
Step 8 : Repeat this process until the mixture cools slightly and has a paste-like consistency.
Step 9 : Then, wet your hands and knead the mixture on a flat surface.
Step 10 : Take a portion of the dough and shape it into a milk conserve of desired size and shape.
Step 11 : Repeat this with the remaining dough, forming individual milk conserves.
Step 12 : Once ready, place them on a tray or container to rest and be ready to enjoy at any time.
