A delicious preparation that has been part of the local culinary tradition for generations. Its origin dates back to ancient Honduran recipes, where milk is used creatively to create a sweet and comforting dessert.
Dulce de leche
Ingredients
1 cup of Milk
Sugar
1 Egg yolk
Red or yellow food coloring
Cloves
1 Cinnamon stick
Preparation
Step 1 : Place the milk in a pot along with the sugar and cinnamon stick and bring to a boil.
Step 2 : Add a few drops of food coloring and let it boil over high heat.
Step 3 : Once the milk is boiling well, reduce the heat and remove the cinnamon.
Step 4 : Start beating lightly while slowly adding the egg yolk.
Step 5 : Once all the yolk is incorporated, continue beating gently for a couple of minutes until the right consistency is achieved; it is recommended to use a wooden spoon when beating.
Step 6 : Take a small amount of the mixture and form a zapotillo with your hands, gently turning to shape as desired.
Step 7 : Place a clove on top and pass through dry sugar.
Step 8 : Done! Now you have the delicious Honduran zapotillos.
