Meat Pastries

Some American banana companies introduced new customs in the area, leading to the replacement of cornmeal with wheat flour in most local preparations. As a result of this change, this and many other recipes emerged in the country.

Ingredients

½ cup of Cooked rice

3 Cooked, diced potatoes

1 pound of Ground pork

1 Large onion, diced

3 Garlic cloves, minced

1 Sweet chili, diced

2 Large tomatoes, diced

Salt and pepper

1 cup of Sweet wine

Vinegar

Achiote

Oil for frying

4 cups of Corn flour

1 teaspoon of Baking powder

1 pinch of Pepper

Preparation

Step 1 : To prepare this recipe, the first step is to prepare the dough.

Step 2 : In a bowl, combine the corn flour, salt, pepper to taste, baking powder, and achiote previously dissolved in hot oil.

Step 3 : Knead until the ingredients are well incorporated and the dough is smooth.

Step 4 : In a deep skillet with a little oil, add the ground pork along with vinegar, onion, minced garlic, diced chili, tomatoes, salt, pepper to taste, sweet wine, vinegar to taste, and achiote.

Step 5 : Cook for about 20 minutes or until the sauce thickens.

Step 6 : In a separate pot, cook the rice and potatoes.

Step 7 : Then, add these ingredients to the sauce with the pork.

Step 8 : Roll out portions of the dough on a flat surface, about the size of a doughnut, to make tortillas.

Step 9 : Next, place the filling in the center of each tortilla and fold to form small empanadas.

Step 10 : In a deep skillet with enough oil, fry the pastries until golden brown on both sides.

Step 11 : Remove from the oil and let rest on absorbent paper to remove excess grease.

Step 12 : Once ready, the pastries can be served with the sauce of your choice.
