Honduran Eggnog Recipe for Christmas
Ingredients
1 liter of Whole milk
1 cup of Sugar
6 Egg yolks
1 Cinnamon stick
1 cup of Honduran rum (optional)
1 teaspoon of Vanilla essence
½ teaspoon of Grated nutmeg
Preparation
Step 1 : First, pour the milk into a large saucepan and add the cinnamon stick, heating the milk over medium heat until warm, but not boiling.
Step 2 : Then, remove the cinnamon and set the milk aside.
Step 3 : In a bowl, beat the egg yolks with the sugar until the mixture is smooth and creamy, making sure the sugar dissolves completely.
Step 4 : Slowly pour the egg mixture into the warm milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps and to cook the yolks.
Step 5 : Continue cooking the mixture over medium-low heat until it slightly thickens.
Step 6 : If desired, add the rum to the mixture and stir well; otherwise, this step can be skipped.
Step 7 : Add the vanilla essence and grated nutmeg, mixing carefully to evenly distribute the flavors.
Step 8 : Once removed from heat, let the mixture cool to room temperature.
Step 9 : Once cooled, transfer the eggnog to a bottle or airtight container and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow flavors to meld and for the eggnog to achieve its characteristic texture.
Step 10 : To serve, suggest serving the Honduran eggnog well-chilled in small glasses, optionally garnished with a sprinkle of additional nutmeg on top as decoration.
