Cabbage pickle is a very popular dish in Honduras, made with cabbage, carrots, onions, and seasonings to create a deliciously tangy and crunchy flavor. It is a perfect side dish for plates like baleadas, tortillas, and other typical dishes.
This is a recipe that has been present in Honduran cuisine since pre-Columbian times.
Native people used cabbage and other vegetables to create side dishes that complement main courses.
Cabbage Pickle
Ingredients

1 Medium cabbage, sliced into julienne strips
2 Small carrots, grated
1 Small onion, sliced
½ teaspoon of Hot red chili
½ teaspoon of Oregano
1 teaspoon of Olive oil
1 teaspoon of Salt
1 teaspoon of Brown sugar
¼ cup of Vinegar
½ cup of Water
Preparation
Step 1 : In a pot, add water and place the cabbage, boiling for 1 minute before draining all the water.
Step 2 : In a separate container, mix the cabbage with grated carrot, onion, hot chili, olive oil, oregano, brown sugar, salt, vinegar, and water.
Step 3 : Once ready, refrigerate the pickle for 2 hours to cool.
Step 4 : After this time, it's ready to serve.
