Chicken Chuco, a jewel of Honduran cuisine, is acclaimed in the department of Cortés and has established itself throughout Central America for its memorable flavor combination. This typical dish has been passed down from generation to generation as a rooted culinary tradition.

Chicken chuco was first originated in the city of San Pedro Sula. Historians tell us that this exquisite and traditional Honduran dish started appearing on one of the busiest sidewalks in the city, at a small stand.

It is believed that the name is unique to Honduras, but there are no records to support this information.

A delicious chicken chuco

Chicken chuco is fried chicken cooked in abundant oil.

Another version of the story about this dish states that its name comes from the way it is fried, but the most accepted version among the population is that it originated at a stand in the city of San Pedro Sula.

However, the secret lies in how it is seasoned, which is based on spices and dressings that make it a true delicacy.

Pairing with tasty plantain slices

This dish is usually accompanied by slices of plantain, a very popular food that can be found at street food vendors and Honduran homes.

It is very common for it to be part of daily meals due to its easy preparation, delicious taste, and low cost.

The chicken Chuco dish even has a day dedicated to it—each January 18th is celebrated as the National Day of Chicken Chuco. In Honduras, you can find different ways to prepare chicken chuco, but the most traditional and common is fried chicken.
